Hey Reader! As moms, we can struggle with knowing what to share with our kids about Jesus and the Bible. I had a family member who, when trying to figure out how to teach her toddler, thought that sending her child to a Bible program, where they learned songs like, "The Bible is absolutely true," was "brainwashing" her child. And this family member was a strong believer. She just didn't quite know what or how or when to teach her child about Jesus. It's a question we all wrestle with, but in different forms. We have all been exposed to the post-Christian and now anti-Christian views everywhere you turn. Many of us want to counter that influence on our children, by talking about the Bible in a way that shows how good it is for us and how loving our God is. But you may not know where to start or how to answer some of your children's hard questions about the Bible. Maybe you didn’t grow up in a Christian home or have any exposure to the Bible. Or you have seen the characterization of Christians in the media and how they can use (and misuse) the Bible to support their causes. Or maybe you’ve been hurt by someone using the Bible against you, like I have by a friend saying I was a bad Christian. Or maybe you just have your own doubts or fears. I want to encourage you to get some simple answers and gain a little insight into a really big question that's worth knowing how to answer. Check out this short sermon I was invited to deliver as a guest on the question, "Is the Bible Reliable?" See for yourself and let it guide you as you share Jesus with your child. Read or watch: In it, I close with these words, which have ministered to my soul in so many dark times, that I wanted to bring them out for you to hear yourself. Listen to the words of singer/songwriter Matthew Perryman Jones as he describes it in his song “Refuge”:He says,
“Lord, I feel the weight of a mountain
Pressing down inside my soul I can see the pillars fallin’ There ain’t nothin’ left to hold The reigns are broken too
I can’t steer this There’s nothing I can do Except to throw my arms out
Take me to
A place where love can mend these wounds Where mystery can dance with truth And the broken soul finds refuge” Blessings to you, Keeley P.S. Let the Bible speak for itself. What do you believe about it's reliability? Is the Bible Reliable? How would you say it to your child? Verse of the Week
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
"The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12 ESV
The Bible’s purpose is to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ. It’s to teach us, to reprove us, to correct us, to keep us on course, to train us in righteousness. It does all this so that we may be complete. So that we may be equipped to do the good works that God would have us do. Scripture teaches us about life and godliness. God’s word is alive. It is active. It was not just written for a people long ago, but it is alive today and has meaning for our lives today. We serve the living God, who speaks to us today through his Word. So this is what the Bible is and what it says its purpose is. The Bible's purpose is to tell us about God and Jesus and how to live in godliness. It’s for our instruction, so we can grow in wisdom and knowledge; it’s to tell us of God’s work in the world and his plan for salvation through his son Jesus Christ. It is designed for our benefit and for our knowledge. This is what it sets out to do. This is what the Bible tells us its purpose is. So, this is what we should judge it on when we ask “Is the Bible reliable?” Related Posts Things I'm Loving

I'm Keeley (M.Div.) and I help moms build consistent habits to raise their kids to know Jesus' amazing love for them so their faith will sustain them through life.
Hey Reader! I used to get annoyed that I had to do everything to try and help our kids grow spiritually. If we were going to pray at a meal with our kids, I had to suggest it. If we were going to talk about how to raise our kids to know Jesus, I had to initiate the conversation. If we were going to read scripture together, I had to start it and do the reading. I was really frustrated, as I wanted my husband/the pastor to be the spiritual leader of our family. But in that season, I knew that...
Hey Reader! I've been thinking a lot lately about how I can help you be a consistent mom for your kids. You see when I had my first kid, then my second, then my third, what was working for me as a married woman with no kids was no longer working with 3 little humans running around. I'd try to do a quick clean up around the house and my 2yo would be working in another room to undo everything I'd just done. It felt like a game of cat and mouse or whack-a-mole. I'd pick up toys in the living...
Hey Reader! Just as I mentioned last week, I've got everything you've been wondering about "mindset" from a Christian perspective new on the blog. Is it biblical? How can you teach it to your young children? In light of all the buzz about Carol Dweck’s Mindset book and teaching kids to have a “growth mindset,” the real question is whether her idea is biblical or not? And what is a biblical mindset? How can you shape your children to grow in knowing Jesus and believe in lasting change? Things...
